Commentary
The bridge is half hidden by red maples on the cliffs bordering the narrow gorge. One legend attributes the bridge to a Korean garden designer who was inspired by watching monkeys weave vines on which to climb a cliff. Hiroshige recorded a visit to this famous site in his travel diaries. [Text prepared for exhibition - Famous Views (2005)]
